The future looks bright for young Ribble Vallley hockey player Maisie Griffiths.

The 14-year-old, who lives in Tosside, and attended Brennands Endowed Primary School in Slaidburn, has just played in the National English Under 14 hockey finals with Kirkby Lonsdale, helping earn a fifth-place finish in Beeston, Nottingham.

Surbiton won the silverware with a 1-0 victory over rivals Teddington, having earlier beaten Kirkby Lonsdale 4-0.

And on the back of that achievement, Maisie has also been selected to attend an England Hockey Junior Regional Performance Centre at Durham - the next step on the Under 18 player pathway, where players receive high level coaching on the core skills of hockey from JRPC coaches, with additional input from England Hockey Board’s Centrally Contracted Coaches.

As a result, Maisie will play for Durham Pumas and train over the summer at Durham University.

Maisie, who has also captained Cumbria county hockey team, now attends Queen Margaret’s School in Escrick.
