There was a fantastic turnout for Mytton Fold Golf Club’s Annual Presentation Evening with the Abbey Suite almost bursting at the seams.

Members, old and new, gathered to celebrate the successes of the past season with some winners laying down challenges to members for the forthcoming season.

Highlights of the evening included Wayne Ivinson winning the Club Championship and John Berry taking the Order of Merit.

It is also the time for the existing Captains to hand over the reins to the new incumbents.Stepping down this year was Mick Mahon & Tarja Wilson who presented a cheque for over £3,000 to this year’s captains’ charity, The East Lancs Hospice.

The new season’s captains Gary Ashton and Kathy Pennington thanked them for all their hard work and leadership. They also announced the new charities for the forthcoming season; Anxiety UK and Blackburn Youth Zone.

Dave Westwood and Christine Avino were installed as captains elect.

Thanks go to the Hargreaves family for an excellent evening and supper.

Week five of the Winter Series saw a number of members suffering from the Presentation Evening celebrations the night before.

The over indulgences were obviously to blame for not signing your card, not adding your handicap to the card and best of all not including your score on the 18th!

Ciaran Halsall monstered the field with a season-best 65-14-51, with Anthony Tomlinson second (71-18-53) and David Clegg third (65-11- 54) after a card play-off with Daniel Timmins.

The top three also took a share of the two’s pot, joining Gary Aldred and Graham Child.

Winter doubles saw Craig Hall (7)/Dave Clegg (9) score 40 points, with Phil Hammond (5)/Peter Main (14) and Terry Bigland (17)/Dan Timmins (12) both scoring 39 points.
