Ellis keeps his wits about him!

R. Ellis kept his wits against all the elements in the second round of the Arthur Longworth trophy. Ellis, who had a nett 69 in the first round, came in with another sub par round 70, finishing with a classy chip and put on the last for par.

Ellis is in great form, with a singles match play semi-final to play against A. Ripley, with D. Rodgers awaiting them in the final, as well as a Greensomes final with playing partner J. Kennerley against J. Sherry and C. Blackadder.

Score of the day went to B. Graves who came in with a fantastic nett 64 after an N/R in the first round.

Division One winner was new member C. Taylor (70), from K. Moore (72) and D. Rodgers (74).

Division Two went to B. Graves (64) ahead of R. Ellis (70) and J. Wade (76).

• The Deer Park Trophy, a full handicap stableford format, was hotly contested last weekend at Stonyhurst Park Golf Club.

The men’s competition was a close run thing with three players finishing with 36 points. In third after cards was captain Jim Walker, runner-up was Mike Kerrigan but with a superior back nine was Geoff Pallister. The ladies winner, Barbara Herd finished with 37 points, with runner-up Laura Cannan on 33 after a card play-off with Margaret Carrinton.

The men’s medal was won by Pallister with 81 – 17 – 64, with Daniel Whalley runner-up in Category 1 (84 – 15 – 69).
