AS Ribble Valley Knights enter the business end of the season, two defeats hit their play-off hopes.
Last Tuesday saw Knights host Rossendale Raptors, and a closely-contested first quarter ended with two very unlikely baskets from the visitors, as they ended the period ahead 15-12.
The second period began as the first had ended with the teams trading baskets, but then Knights imploded, as a crushing six-minute spell saw them outscored 23-6.
At the half Rossendale were firmly in command at 43-25.
A mini-revival in the third period saw the Clitheroe team pull within striking distance at 57-46, but Rossendale held firm in the final period and ran out victors 71-62.
The next night Ribble Valley travelled to local rivals Blackburn Phoenix.
The first quarter saw Knights struggle to get any offensive continuity and, despite playing decent defence against the much taller Phoenix squad, their lack of scoring was highlighted in 17-4 first quarter scoreline.
Tactical adjustments by the Ribble Valley side only yielded minor benefits on offence, and so, despite a valiant effort at the defensive end, the larger Blackburn squad were able to hold Knights in check and ran out 60-29 winners.
Knights next game is a tough home match against top-three side Ribby Hall Jets.
Anyone interested in playing basketball is welcome to attend junior or senior training sessions.
