There was a fantastic turn out for President’s Day, which proved to be Mytton Golf Club’s biggest of the year so far.
The ground staff had completed a fantastic job of ironing out superb greens and fairways to play on and it was testament to their efforts that anything short of par failed to push competitors in to the top 10.
Mr President also provided refreshments with generous offerings of pie on the 10th tee and much needed water.
For most of the players scoring level par, it was an enjoyable experience but all knew an exceptional score would be required to take this board competition.
Dave Bolton rose to the top with a glorious score of 42 points, he commented: “The course was that good how did no one else score this well?”
Hard on Dave’s heels was Tony Cross with 39 points and third on a card playoff was Dan Timmins with 38 points.
Winning the division one and two prizes, also on 38 points, was Jean Van Boeckel and Nick Howarth respectively.
Meanwhile, there were three twos this week; sharing the pot was Phil Hammond and Dave Westwood on the first and Phil Ryan on the ninth.
It was daughter’s turn to take the spoils in the Ladies’ Competition with Katie Maher posting a superb round of 39 points, pushing Kathy Pennington into second with 30 points.
The spot prizes this week went to Carole Maher – closest to the pin on the first; Jean Van Boeckel – closest to the pin in two on the second; John Welch – nearest to the pin on the ninth and Jon Edmundson – longest drive on the 14th.
