Frank Hindle just held off Gary Ashton to win Mytton Fold Golf Club’s England Golf Union Medal competition on Saturday.

With both players having carded nett 68s, it was left to a card playoff to assign the win to Frank by the closest of margins.

Very close behind came Ray Standring and Ian Shaw, both just one shot behind the leaders, with Ray taking third by way of a card playoff, but Ian took the Division Two award.

Three players, Richard Greaves, Brad Hodgeson and Phil Hammond, all carded nett 70s and finished in that order following cards. Phil’s 77-7-70 was the lowest gross of the day and was rewarded by the Division One prize.

As there were no twos, the prize fund rolls over to this weekend’s Queen’s Jubilee Trophy.

Frank’s win takes him to the top of the Order of Merit table which he shares with John Farnsworth and Wayne Ivinson, all having amassed 29 points. Matt Oakley and Richard Palmer tie for fourth on 24 points.
