Clitheroe team up to claim captain’s prize at Nefyn

Clitheroe Golf Club captain Ian Walsh teamed up with general manager Mike Walls and Country members John and Liz Wilson from Nefyn to compete against teams from the north of England at Nefyn Golf Club to celebrate the re-opening of two signature holes damaged by storms 18 months ago.

The four-man Clitheroe team won the top prize with 90 points after a card play-off with Alderley Edge.

Saturday’s Medal and Castle Cup Qualifier at Clitheroe was won by Max Jones with a score of 81-14-67. Matthew Day was two shots, and Michael Fearnhead took third with a score of 81-11-70 after card play-offs with Geoffrey Cole, Nick Brice and Alf England.

Julian Hindle’s win in the Midweek Medal and Tradesman’s Trophy qualifier with a score of 93-28-65 cost him a three-stroke handicap reduction in his handicap.

Clitheroe Seniors pulled off an impressive double over Preston with a 9-3 win at the Fulwood club.

At the half-way stage of the Ribble Valley League season, Clitheroe head the table by five points.

There were card play-off win for Marilyn Fletcher and Tracey Bentley over Jean Holt and Lauraine Wall in the Ladies’ Fourball Betterball Stableford.

Jane Hoyle was the Division Two winner of the Ladies’ Two Division Stableford with 36 points. The only Division One competitor was Christine Stokes who scored 29 points.

Allan Hacking won Sunday’s Single Stableford competition with 35 points.

l Angus Barr and Brenda Griffith were stars of the show when Mytton Fold Golf Club held their Queen’s Jubilee Trophy Competition, both carding 40 Stableford points.

Garry Davies was second behind Andrew with 38 points with club captain Mick Bryan third with 37 points, just holding off Craig Hall (Division Two winner) and Richard Palmer (Division One winner) on a card play-off.

In the Ladies’ section Brenda was chased home by Lady Captain-elect Tarja Wilson and Doreen Hammond.

In the ladies’ June Stableford competition it was another win for Brenda (32 points) ahead of Tarja and Katie Maher.

Mytton Fold’s second Algarve medal competition was won by Brenda, whose 10 under-par 62 scooped a golfing trip to the Algarve, sponsored by Mytton Fold Hotel.

Craig Hall took Mytton Fold’s June Stableford on Saturday. His 42 points left him two clear of Matt Oakley who was a further two ahead of Brad Hodgeson.

Club captain Mick Bryan celebrated his year in office with a hole-in-one at the ninth in Mytton Fold Golf Club’s Wednesday Social competition.
