CLITHEROE swimmer Peter Jones has been included in the FINA World top-10 rankings for his success in the backstroke events he entered during the 2010 season.
Competing in the 40/44 years age group, he came fourth in the short course 100m, sixth in the 200m and seventh in the 50m. In the long course events he collected a seventh in the 100m and eighth in the 50m.
The only other British male swimmer in his age bracket to appear in the top 10 was Olympic silver medallist Nick Gillingham, who claimed two seventh places and a 10th in the breaststroke events.
Peter conducts all his training in the Ribble Valley with Clitheroe Masters and Clitheroe Dolphins ,while he does his land training with CrossFit Clitheroe.
When asked if he was pleased to have achieved so many top 10 World placings, he said: “No, I wanted to be number one! But it’s good to put Clitheroe on the world swimming map because all my training has been done in local sports clubs.”
After a break over the Christmas period, Peter is now back in training and hoping to achieve that elusive number one spot.
