CLITHEROE Golf Club starlet Sophie Lamb is at it again.

The 13-year-old, who won the Under-14s trophy in the Northern Girls’ Championship at Durham City Golf Club earlier in the year, has now become the first junior representative of the Ribble Valley club to defend a Clitheroe Golf Club junior knockout title.

The prolific teenager beat off 20 talented competitors before seeing off Will Payton 5&4 in the final.

“She was absolutely thrilled,” said her proud father Phil Lamb.

“She entered the competition for the first time last year, and won it, so she was delighted to have defended her crown.

“She’s doing really well, and she’s still only 13. Hopefully she’ll keep progressing.”

Sophie, who has now dropped to six handicap, has also been selected for the next England Girls’ squad.

She was picked out from a skills testing day in York, where her chipping, putting, driving and fitness was assessed.

Sophie will now join six other girls at the next camp in Harrogate on Sunday, where England coach Pat Smillie and physio Nicola Tebbutt will be in attendance.

“I’m so proud of her,” said Phil. “She’s doing really well, enjoying her golf and progressing nicely.

“She keeps improving every year and you can see now that she’s going to be a great player in a year or two.

“She’s fully focused on achieving her goals now.”
