CLITHEROE’S Connor Byrne finished 12th in Kranj, Slovenia on Saturday at the European Youth Climbing Cup.

The result was all the more encouraging, competing against 39 rivals in his age group - 16-17 year olds - which he has another year in.

The Clitheroe Royal Grammar School pupil was the top Great Britain competitor at the event, finishing above Buster Martin, who was joint-16th.

Connor was also best GB climber at the EYC round at Gemozac, France earlier this month, as the 16-year-old returned with a highly-creditable 17th-place finish.
