Clitheroe’s Samantha Murray will contest Friday’s modern pentathlon World Cup 1 Final in Acapulco, Mexico.
The 2012 Olympic silver and world bronze medallist, at 24 the most experienced member of an eight-strong Great Britain team, was one of 36 women to qualify on Wednesday, after competing in sweltering heat at the Unidad Deportivo Acapulc.
In three tough groups, Samantha was in group B.
The action began with fancing, with Poland’s Oktawia Nowacka victorious on the pistes, holding off Ukraine’s 2013 Junior World Championships bronze medallist Anastasiya Spas.
Samantha finished 13th, ahead of her strongest event, the swim.
The fastest in the pool was USA’s Grace Kittle with a time of 02:10.64, just ahead of Murray.
In the run/shoot, Nowacka conformably held onto to her lead to finish first, and Samantha qualfied in 10th place.
She will be joined in the final by fellow Brits Freyja Prentice, Jo Mui and Kate French.
