GIFTED Clitheroe golf starlet Sophie Lamb culminated 2012 by living her American dream.

The rapidly-improving 15-year-old, recently picked for the England Select Golf squad, crossed the Atlantic to make her debut in the States in the Doral Publix Junior Golf Classic held in Miami, Florida.

The 54-hole tournament saw competitors travel from all over the globe, with Denmark’s Cecilie Bofill claiming top spot, Switzerland’s Albane Valenzuela taking second place and Venezuela’s Gabriella Coella claiming third.

Sophie competed in that girls category, in the 14-15 age bracket, and finished eighth out of 52 players with a score of 77-76-71, a total tally of 224.

Her proud father Phil said: “I was really pleased with her first trip golfing in the States. She was also watched by a few scouts from American universities, two of whom videoed her, so she obviously made a decent impression.

“Sophie told me afterwards that she was a little disappointed with her scores in the first two rounds but it all came together on the final day.”
