CLITHEROE Dolphins’ Will Murray smashed his personal best to claim gold in the 13-years’ 100m freestyle at the North West Regional Championships at the Manchester Aquatics Centre earlier this month.

Will narrowly scraped into the final after his heat didn’t go as planned, but he pulled his best swim ever out of the bag in the final to surprise all the other qualifiers.

His time of 58.01secs also qualifies him for the National Championships in the summer!

He added a fifth place in the 100m Butterfly, and another Dolphins swimmer, Elliot Norman, finished fifth in the 200m Breaststroke for 10-year-old boys.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins’ Micro A team enjoyed a fantastic victory in their home gala in front of a full house.

Dolphins didn’t get off to a good start, and were in last place after six events, but some amazing runs of results in the individuals put them firmly in the lead - at one point Dolphins won six races in a row!

The final result was Clitheroe Dolphins A 144 points, Garston 131 points, Blackburn 118 points and Blackpool Aquatics B 79 points.

The result moved Clitheroe into second place overall in the B division with one gala remaining.

The previous weekend the club hosted their home gala for the B team.

The final result was Preston B 159 points, Carnforth B 117 points, Clitheroe B 109 points and Blackpool Aquatics C 86 points.

It was the highest points total in memory for the B team, with all the team swimming well.

The club’s recruitment drive is paying off as they managed to field a nine-year-old boys’ team for the first time this year, and they all swam well in their first gala.

The Club Distance Gala rounded off a very busy June, where the swimmers competed over distances from 100m up to 800m.

The swimmers put in some fantastic performances on both evenings, with 42 club records and some massive personal bests achieved.
