Clitheroe Dolphin Will shines at first international swim meet

CLITHEROE Dolphins swimmer Will Murray swam two new personal bests and reached the Under 18 100m freestyle final at his first international meet - the British Gas International - in Leeds.

At an event laden with Olympians, the 15-year-old’s hard work in training paid off with new personal best times in both the 50m free and the 100m free.

His time of 53.71s qualified him for a place in the Under 18 100m free final - a great achievement for a 15-year-old.

Meanwhile, 17 swimmers represented Clitheroe Dolphins at the Lancashire County Championships at the Manchester and Liverpool Aquatics Centres in 50m pools.

For quite a number of the swimmers, it was their first chance to race in the long course environment and they all did the club proud.

In action were Amy Christie, Harry Wood, Darcy Williams, Ellie Brown, Alasdair Moir, Harvey Griffin, Hannah Procter, Iwan Timmins, Jack Stanley, Joseph Kenny, Charlie Coy, Robert Dyer, Abigail Procter, Ben Stanley, Megan Davidson, Katie Gaffing and Jarvis Stanton.

Jarvis claimed a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly, Hannah Procter achieved three Regional Qualifying Times in the 100m freestyle, 200m Breaststroke and 100m breaststroke, and her sister Abbi achieved another Regional Qualifying Time, this time in the 200m butterfly.

Dolphins’ Micro League team then travelled to Southport at the weekend for their first gala ever in the A Division, and proved they could compete with the top teams in the North West.

Special mentions go to all the nine-year-olds for swimming so well in their first competitive outings - Isabel Bentley, Aisha Sykes, Alishia Heath, Kenzi Ormerod, Phoebe Green, Robert Moir, Hugh Bulloch, Connor Eccleston and Lewis Gerrard-Russell.

Team of the night was the 12-year-old boys who brought home 21 points for the team, with the final result being: Southport B 138 points; Chorley A 115; Pioneer 79 113; Clitheroe 112.

The following swimmers won their races - Alasdair Moir (Boys’ 11 years’ 50m Backstroke); Jack Stanley (Boys’ 12 years’ 50m Butterfly); Jack Stanley (Boys’ 12 years’ 50m Freestyle); Connor Ecclestone (Boys’ 9 years’ 25m Butterfly); Boys’ 12 years’ Medley Relay (Patrick Enion, Harvey Griffin, Jack Stanley, Aaron Nicholas); Boys’ 9 years’ Medley Relay (Robert Moir, Hugh Bulloch, Connor Eccleston, Lewis Gerrard-Russell); Boys’ 12 years’ Freestyle Relay (Patrick Enion, Harvey Griffin, Jack Stanley, Aaron Nicholas).
