Clitheroe athlete Charlotte Williams won a silver medal at the weekend in the hammer at the English Schools’ Championships at Gateshead International Stadium.
The 14-year-old Saint Augustines High School pupil was throwing against 14 other competitors, and after three throws, Charlotte finished in the last eighgt to qualify for the final.
She was leading the competition until the fifth throw when she was over taken and beaten to the gold medal, claiming silver in the biggest competition of her hammer to date with a throw of 51.97m.
To finish on the podium in a competition of this magnitude is a dream for Charlotte, and she has now gained the National Standard and will be one of the throwers to travel to Bedford International Athletics Stadium to represent England next month.
She is only 4m off the British record, which is another goal.
Charlotte, coached by Mick Hitchon, father of British number one Sophie, will also travel to Hull to compete in the inter counties, representing Lancashire.
