Clitheroe Golf Club held their annual Seniors’ Championship competition on Saturday.

Gary Byrne turned in the best round of the day to win the F.H. Long Trophy with a four-over- par 75 gross.

The Seniors’ Rose Bowl for the best net score was returned by Alex Rigby with his 80-13- 67.

The age group prizes were:- 55-65 Best Gross, Phil Hanson (77), Best Net, Geoff Sutcliffe 78-10- 68; 66-70 Best Gross, Philip Cort (82), Best Net, Richard Crossley 84-14- 70; 71-75 Best

Gross, Mike Gibson (84), Best Net, Edward White 87-15- 72; Over 75 Best Gross, Brian Stokes (97), Best Net, Norman Entwistle 101-23-78.

John Blahuta had the best score of the non-senior players, scoring 70-04- 66.

There was the usual massive support for the Clitheroe Lions Charity Golf Day on Friday, with LKQ4 posting the winning score of 82 points followed by Marriot Worsley Park Hotel on 81 and Mortimers Estate Agents on 80.

The prizes were presented by Clitheroe Lions President Alan Clifford, ably assisted by Clitheroe Golf Club Captain Peter Hargreaves.

Proceeds will be split between Lions Charities and the Captain’s Charity at Clitheroe.

The Michael Bonnallack Open Golf competition on Wednesday was abandoned because of the inclement weather and will be re-played in September.

A Three Division Stableford among the Lady Members on Thursday was won by Tracy Bentley in Division One with a score of 35 points.

Division Two went to Jean Alcock with 34 points, and the Division Three best score was returned by Rosemary Fort with 36 points.

* This weekend saw a Texas scramble at Mytton Fold.

Just 0.7 separated the top two, with the lowest gross score and the lowest net was Tony Cross, Richard Turner and Stuart Pearce with a winning score of 67 -4.83 - 62.17.

In second was John Whittaker, John Kwasniewski and Paul Clegg with a score of 69-5.13 -63.87. Taking third was Steve Gordon, Phil Hammond and Kyle Furlong with a score of 70 -4.77-65.23.

The 25th saw this month’s Ladies’ Midweek Medal. Elaine Fitzhenry took the spoils with a net 80, in second was Chis Avino with a net 87 and in third was Kathy Pennington with a net 89.

* Stonyhurst Park Captain’s Day was won by David Walmsley with 83-19-64 from Andy Townsend 84-19-65.
