Brenda Griffith showed the men how to play the Mytton Fold golf course when she shot an outstanding nett 51 at the weekend!
Playing off an adjusted winter handicap, Brenda’s score was one better than past captain Peter Main and two better than husband Dave.
Played in freezing conditions on the shortened 16-hole course Brenda, leading the ladies’ winter Order of Merit, benefitted from a readjustment of her handicap, the resulting change leapfrogging her score over the previous winner and runner-up. Her win, however now returns her handicap to its previous level.
Gary Aldred and Jean Van Boeckel both carded nett 54s, Gary getting the nod on a card play-off. Gary also split the Twos Pot with Peter Main after they both eagled the second hole.
In the Winter Pairs Phil Hammond/Peter Main and captain-elect Nick Avino/Martin Holden were the top scoring pairs when they carded 41 points. Gary Aldred/Richard Greaves, Dave Griffith/Steve Worrall and Peter Fox/Phil Ryan all finished one point in arrears.
With the best nine scores to count in order to qualify for the winner-take-all Winter Pairs Final, it’s still all to play for with seven pairings in with a shout.
• It was the latest of the Jamie Hunt winter Order Of Merit on Saturday at Whalley, and John Heap walked away with the 10 merit points after posting 28 points on the day.
John is now joint first with John Rostron on 19 points. Second went to Paul Wray (26 points) with Chris Driver (25 points) third.
