It was Captain Howard Walmsley’s Day on Saturday.

J. Andrew was the overall winner with a nett 71, beating C. Gould on a card play-off, and third place went to S. Crossley with a 72.

Best Senior went to R. Ferley.

The Captain’s prize table was second to none, as was the hospitality, and the day was finished with a well-supported dinner dance.

The Whalley Senior Open was held on Monday with Ferley coming in with 42 points along with playing partner C. Thompson.

Second place, also with 42 points, pipped on a card play-off, were M. Spokes and J. Wriggley from Marsden Park.

Third place went to Nelson duo Bate and Marsden with 41 points,

Last Tuesday saw the seniors and the ladies of Whalley Golf Club play their annual Charity Match .

The winners of the Charity Cup were Margaret Calvert , Janet Taylor , Billy Banks and John Harvey with 93 points .

After presenting the cup Lady Captain Elect Margaret Breakell thanked Brian Keating for helping to organise the event , Bridget Rees for being in charge of the cards , and the players for taking part and donating £270 towards Chid Action North West and Motor Neurone Disease Association , the chosen charities of Lady Captain and Captain.

Thanks was also given to the catering staff .

On Thursday the ladies competed in a Medal Competition and Past Lady Captain’s Rose Bowl . The winner was Maureen Board with 91-19-72 ; second was Karen Thompson (93-18-75) and third was Sue Madden (103-27-76) .

Anne Prior won the Past Lady Captain’s Rose Bowl (105-24-81) .
