Last Thursday, Whalley Golf Club held their Lady Captain’s Day.
The Stableford Competition for Lady Captain’s Prize was won by Agnes Flanagan with 38 points, with Margaret Calvert second with 35 points after a card play-off with Bridget Rees.
The best front nine was won by Joan Whittaker and Karen Thompson was the winner of the best back nine .
Joan also won the longest drive on the 16th and the best dressed lady on the day .
Viv Birtwell won a prize for the best score on the par 3s and Viv Lee took the High Handicap prize .
Jean Tasker won the 9-hole competition and the fun competition over nine holes in the evening was won by George Blenkinship and Mike Conroy , with Agnes Flanagan and Keith Johnson second .
Joan Bowker and Marion Miller won the evening Bridge event with 2,430 points .
Lady ,aptain Sally Blenkinship thanked everyone who helped make the day a success, and Wendy Green, on behalf of the players, thanked Sally for her generosity and hospitality.
Peter Clayton was blessed with a glorious day for his Clitheroe Golf Club President’s Day Competition, and 180 members took part.
The President himself was only two over after nine, but after refreshments at the Halfway House eased off to finish with a creditable nett 70 to finish just off the Leader Board.
Mike Gibson added the President’s Prize to his Trophy Cabinet, with four birdies in his 72-5-67 winning total.
Chris Vines had a good back nine to post a nett 68 but Andrew Siddle finished with two birdies and a par to pip him for second after countback.
Division Two provided the drama of the day.
Keith Underwood had the Trophy won after 15 with shots to spare, but blew it by dropping 10 on the last three to lose out to Dieno George after cards with a nett 69 return.
George only dropped one shot on his last three holes.
Roger Brennan stayed cool to head a trio on 70 for third place.
Round One of the Ladies’ Scratch Salver and EWGA Medal was a triumph for Elizabeth Narayana with her 94-18-76 return, one shot ahead of Pat Murray and Kath Bithell.
Michelle Fielding had the lowest Gross closely followed by Eileen Baron and Marilyn Fletcher.
Kath Townley played the par 3s well to win Division One of the Ladies’ Midweek Medal and Michelle Fielding produced a good finish to take runners-up spot ahead of Chris Stokes, who returned the lowest gross.
Pat Murray took the Division Two Prize with her nett 72 and also had the only 2.
Vicky Nuttall took second prize ahead of Debra Wood and Gill Eddlestone.
Diane Buttle had done enough after seven in the Ladies’ 9-Hole Stableford to win after cards with Barbara Blueyes.
Kenny Ward won the Seniors Stableford with 36 points, with Alf England second after cards. Wayne Townley, Conor McLaughlin and Richard Read completed the Leader Board.
