THE legendary Flat Jack Simmons starred in the 150th season celebration match at Clitheroe Cricket Club.

He bowled four overs for only four runs , joining in the mirth of the rest of the team as his skipper asked him to “give it some flight Jack please, none of this flat stuff”.

He was then asked to bat for the Ladies team and had the last laugh at his skipper’s expense as he launched him for 22 off one over. He finally fell four runs short of his 50 and allowed the Ladies to set a very challenging total of 90 in 20 overs.

Kate Hopkins then wreaked havoc on the Gentlemens’ batting order, taking five wickets including former pros Josh Marquet, Jon Harvey and finally Jack (now batting for his own team), while Alex Hartley, O. Hussain, Holly Scott, Saphina Stamford and Martha Smith bowled very tightly.

Veteran Rovers player Chris Sims then rolled back the years but despite a late challenge by the Malcolms, Blackburn and Scott, the girls ran out comfortable winners.

Hartley took 2 for 17, Eve Whaling an impressive 1 for 5, Elenanor Graham and Holly Scott miserly spells of 0 for 6 and 0 for 4 but the undoubted ‘Lady of the Match’ was Kate Hopkins with five wickets for only nine runs.
