clitheroe seconds held off their Read counterparts by 25 runs to win the Lawrenson Cup Final at Chatburn Road last Sunday.

And Graeme Kershaw was the hero, as his 34 not out helped the hosts from 93-6 to 160-8 after the allotted 50 overs.

And he then claimed 4-32 off 9.4 overs as Read were dismissed for 135 with eight balls remaining of a thrilling climax.

Clitheroe’s top order all made starts, but failed to build, until Daniel Turner stuck around for 25, and Simon Duckworth added 21.

But it was Kershaw’s 40-ball unbeaten knock which took the total to a respectable 160.

Frank Barden took 2-22 for Read and Michael Whalley 3-43.

In reply, Kershaw ripped through the openers, but Andrew Turner dug in for a 106-ball 40, before running out of partners.

And when Andrew Bennett was bowled by Kershaw for 13, the game was up.

Andy Hutchins took 2-31, and Saud Ahmed 3-21.
