A 30-over cricket match took place at Church Meadows for the Michael Britcliffe Memorial, in aid of both the Alzheimers Society and RWC&BC.

For Michael, it was about giving kids the chance to play the great game - “It’s not the winning, it’s the taking part” was his key philosophy.

Michael’s grandson Jordan Britcliffe captained the winning side, beating Mark Thompson XI.

Jordan’s XI: J.Britcliffe (captain), I.Britcliffe, J.Scuderi, M.Peel, A.Marsh, J.Dewhurst, P.Dibb, H.Kay, M.King, T.Braithwaite, M.Briggs.

Mark’s XI: M.Thompson (captain), M.Woodruff, B.Woodruff, L.Delport, I.Threlfall, J.Jones, T.Ibbotson, W.Threlkeld, S.Hipgrave, J.Wells, C.Jackson, S.Jackson.

Also on the same day but on Bowling Green the MOVE-IT-DOUBLES bowls competition held in memory of Mel Edmondson.

The idea of this competition is to bring any social member and non bowlers and bowlers together, teaming them up in pairs.

A total of 32 players took part, and played in a round-robin format, with eight players per group playing three games of 15 up. The winners of each group played in the semi-final, and group A winners Hazel Hodder and Eric Wallace played group C winners Tracy Spencer and Alan Dewhurst, with Hazel and Eric winning 15-7.

Group B winners John Aubin and Jack Holt played group D winners Ann Barratt and Stuart Greenwood, with John and Jack winning 15-3.

In the final, Hazel and Eric beat John and Jack 15-11.

All who took part said how much they had really enjoyed learning and taking part in Mel’s competition.

Many thanks to all the organisers who helped make this day such a special day in memory of Michael and Mel, who will be sorely missed by all at Church Meadow.

Wanderers are also holding the popular Floodlit Pairs competition, sponsored again by Rectella International Ltd.
