The Cottagers threw the proverbial kitchen sink at Sean Dyche’s side in search of an equaliser after Andre Gray had put the visitors back in front on the hour.

But the league leaders put their heads where it hurt and their bodies on the line to keep the Championship’s second highest scorers at bay.

“The defensive work was unbelievable in the second half,” said the Welshman. “The ball came flying in the box for the last 20 minutes and we defended for our lives. That was important.

“We’ve done that for the last few games. The defence has given us that base as strikers to go on and win the game.”
