Turf Moor pitch could be best money Burnley FC spent

BURNLEY look for their seventh home win on Saturday against Reading - and Brian Laws admits the pitch has played a big part.

The club had it relaid over the summer to the tune of £750,000, and Laws feels the Desso Grassmaster surface could be among his best “signings” to date.

Only Bristol City have come away from Turf Moor without losing, earning a goal-less draw, and Laws is thrilled with how the pitch has proved conducive to his side’s passing game: “If you want to play good football you have to have the surface to go with it.

“Great credit to the players for some of the football they played last year and the year before that on a surface that wasn’t really conducive to it.

“Everyone recognises that Turf Moor has a poor pitch at times, particularly in the winter, but with the finances we’ve gained from the Premier League has allowed us to do something that needed doing for many years, and that’s to spend heavily on the pitch.

“I think the rewards will follow that with the football that we’re playing.

“The pitch is a contributing factor.

“I think without doubt it will be part of the best money we’ve spent, particularly at Turf Moor because the players are going out there knowing the surface is there for them to play on.”

Laws, indeed was the last visiting Championship manager to win at Turf Moor - 13 games ago - and he added: “Football’s all about confidence and we do seem a confident team at the moment. Although the away results haven’t mirrored those at home, the performances have. So we know we’re consistent in our performances, but for one reason or another we’ve not had any luck away from home. But it will come.”
