“The emphasis remains the same” - Sean Dyche on key clash with Newcastle

So you wouldn’t be surprised to hear he places no extra significance in Sunday’s home clash with Newcastle United.

The Magpies come to Turf Moor four points adrift of the Clarets, and three above Fulham, who occupy the last spot in the relegation zone.

It will be painted as a “must-win” by sections of both sets of supporters, with eight games to play.

Dyche, however, remains focused on taking things one game at a time: “The emphasis remains the same.

”People didn't expect us to beat Arsenal, Liverpool, probably Everton.

”All wins count and every game is important in the Premier League, and I focus on every game and give it all my attention, as do my staff and hopefully as do the players.”

Burnley will be looking to bounce back from only a second defeat in nine league games, having seen a two-goal lead wiped out at Southampton.

But there were aspects of that performance that pleased him, feeling it was only a couple of periods where his players switched off that proved costly: “We have plenty more football and important games coming up.

”We have come out of a very strong run of performances.

”There were only spells in this game (where I was frustrated).

”A lot of it was good and what we expected.

”There were spells that cost us, it is important to eradicate that quite obviously, but the consistency of performance has been very good.

”We had a slight naivety, which is unusual for us, because up to the half hour we had good control of the game and scored two very good goals.

“They had shots from distance but nothing really.

”Then the last 15 minutes (of the first half), we went soft on the basics, and when you do that, you give teams a chance, and we gave them a chance.”
