Preston-born Lenny, who started his career at Blackburn Rovers, had three spells at Turf Moor, helping Burnley win promotion from the third tier in 2000.

He was diagnosed with MND four years ago, and now is looking for people to take part in his #IceFoot92 challenge, to highlight and help towards the MND Association’s care and research work.

Former Clarets such as Jamie Hoyland, Steve Davis, Gordon Armstrong and Paul Weller have already filmed themselves standing in a bucket of ice water for 92 seconds and shared the footage on social media.

Lenny said: “As a player, I’d ice foot injuries. I’m asking people to stand in a bucket of ice water for 92 seconds – one second for each club in the league – I can promise you it’s pure hell.

“If you manage it , you get to nominate your mates so it’s a great chance to set them up!

“This is my way of doing something positive for people with MND, now and into the future.

“There is some research suggesting a link between sport and MND so football seemed like the perfect platform to not only raise funds but raise awareness of the disease.”

To take part, film yourself standing in a bucket of ice water for 92 seconds.

Donate £10 by texting MNDLEN to 70085, nominate mates to do the challenge, and share your footage with the hashtag#IceFoot92

Meanwhile, Lenny has a charity football match lined up, with the 51-year-old appearing as a special guest, as long as he’s well and available.
