Speculation linking Burnley's Premier League rivals with midfielder Josh Brownhill is no surprise - but it is just speculation!

It comes as no surprise that Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill has been linked with a number of rival Premier League clubs.

But I understand the Warrington-born 25-year-old is happy at Turf Moor and loving life with the Clarets after his January move from Bristol City last year.

The former Preston North End man was linked with Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Wolves at the weekend, as well as West Ham - who Brownhill is believed to have turned down to join Burnley despite the prospect of a bigger financial package.

But he has excelled in his preferred central midfield role this season in the absence of Jack Cork, who had to wait until January for his first football of the season after suffering a fractured foot in June.

Brownhill has gone on to make 26 appearances for the Clarets so far this season, scoring once with a stunning long-distance strike at Millwall.

His statistics are impressive - with only Southampton's Jan Bednarek (58) making more interceptions than his 55, better than Ruben Neves and Declan Rice (52) and N'Golo Kante (51).

So taking his age into account, growing Premier League experience and impressive statistics, put his name into any scouting database, and Brownhill will no doubt be high up many clubs' list of ones to watch.

However, speculation linking him with a move away is just that at present, with the player happy at Turf Moor building a solid foundation of games and growing into life in the Premier League.

Brownhill is ambitious, and would love to develop into a player playing for a top-10 club in the top flight, but with Burnley having achieved that in two of the last four seasons, there is scope for him to do that at Turf Moor, rather than look elsewhere.
