A Special message to Mee

Joey Barton and Reverend and the Makers frontman John McClure remodelled The Specials’ classic “A Message to you Rudy” as the Clarets midfielder felt Mee deserved his own chant after an outstanding season.

A video of the squad singing to Mee after winning the Championship title at Charlton has gone viral on social media, and Mee - also the supporters’ clubs’ player of the year - smiled: “The song’s been doing everyone’s head in for the past week!

“It just kicked off a little bit, and obviously Joey’s social media powers has helped with that.”

The chant shows the strong dressing room bond of the champions, and he agreed: “I think so, yes. You don’t get many teams making up songs for each other. It’s really good.

“It’s not a bad tune either!”

Being voted players’ player of the year by his peers crowned a remarkable season for Mee, who is yet to experience defeat in the league since being switched inside from left back to centre back after the 3-0 defeat at Hull City on Boxing Day.

And Mee admitted: “That award meant a lot. The boys you’ve been with all season, week in week out, every day in training - you get to know players and know what they’re about, and it’s really nice to have that recognition from them, to know the type of job I do from the team.

“It’s really nice to be noticed by your fellow team-mates.

“I’m pleased with how the whole season has gone for me to be honest with you.

“I felt like I had a good start to the season and gradually got better and better.”

Mee was not one of four Burnley players named in the PFA Championship team of the season, with Tom Heaton, Michael Keane, Barton and Andre Gray getting the nod, and the former Manchester City youngster said: “We all stepped up to the plate. Everyone digs in and we’ve got some great players in our team.”
