Rimington are on target for the treble after beating Grindleton 5-0 to progress to tomorrow night’s Craven Cup Final against Bentham at Rolls-Royce in Barnoldswick.
Terry Braithwaite’s side have already won the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup, and a sixth-successive East Lancashire League First Division title, and they will look to end a remarkable campaign on a high.
Against Grindleton, they got off to a perfect start, Fagan passing across to Dinsdale, to Hutchinson and then Lloyd, who crossed for Luke Conti to fire home in the first minute.
Then in the 20th minute, Dinsdale hit a free-kick to the far post, where Lloyd headed back across goal for Conti to head in from close range to make it 2-0.
Rimington had further chances before the break, as Walsh’s left-foot effort flew just wide. before Conti missed the chance to seal a hat-trick and Walmsley’s shot went past a post.
In the second half, Grindleton pressed forward and left gaps at the back, and McLean crossed for Lloyd who, with his back to goal, produced a wonderful overhead kick to extend the lead.
Gawthorpe, looking for his first goal of the season, headed a free-kick agonisingly wide, before, with four minutes left, Lloyd’s cross went in via a combination of Eglin and a defender.
In the last minute, Fagan’s whipped in corner was headed in by Dinsdale to give the scoreline a rather flattering look at 5-0.
This sets up a repeat of last year’s final with Bentham, and Braithwaite said: “We will have to show much more energy and concentration in the final. We know how hard Bentham made it for us last season so we are in for a hard contest.”
