Rimington are four points from another East Lancashire League title – and could potentially win it on Saturday against Burnley Athletic.
The villagers took a step nearer the title with a 5-3 victory over Stacksteads, in an intriguing match, sponsored by MP Coulter Gas Services.
Rimington’s pressure paid off midway through the first half when Lloyd looped in a header from Fagan’s pinpoint free-kick to open the scoring.
But five minutes before the break, Stacksteads levelled when Taylor’s cross found his striker, who beat Kershaw with a diving header.
After the interval, Rimington regained the lead when Fagan played in McLean, and he sped away before slotting home .
And five minutes later, Benfield found Lloyd and he squared across goal, where McLean hammered in.
The visitors responded brilliantly and grabbed two goals in two minutes to level again, before McLean beat his man and crossed for Lloyd to head in his second.
McLean sealed the win and and his hat-trick on 85 minutes from the spot after Lloyd was upended in the area.
Boss Terry Braithwaite said: “We now know that 4 points will seal it for us, and the home game on Saturday with Burnley could decide it.”
