Read United put in horror show!

ON Hallow’een weekend, Read United served up a horror show as Langho took the points in the Ribble Valley derby.

Langho started like a train, forcing United stopper Nick Galea into a series of smart saves before Jimmy Tyldesley’s cute half volley gave the visitors the lead midway through the first half.

Read’s defence, marshalled by captain Matt Benfield, was having to withstand wave upon wave of Langho attack as the hosts were unable to cope with the away side’s 4-3-3 formation.

Dan Blackburn spurned many opportunities for the visitors, and as his frustrations mounted he should have seen red for violent conduct on Leigh Slater, however a poor referee let the crime go unpunished.

Langho doubled their lead after the break when a fortuitous cross-shot found the top corner to leave the home side with a mountain to climb.

Read seldom ventured into enemy territory, but when Andy Bennett let fly from 30 yards, the keeper could only parry to Matt Riley, who should have converted the rebound.

Neil Snape then blazed wide with the goal at his mercy.

Jack Fielding endeavoured in a United midfield missing four first team regulars, however the hosts lacked craft and vision all game.

Man of the match Paul Coutts nearly broke the crossbar in two with a stunning effort, before audaciously making it three from the penalty spot by chipping the ball down the middle of the goal.

Read had a penalty shout of their own, as Bennett was wrestled to the ground by a move that wouldn’t look out of place in the WWE.

However, this was dismissed to compound United to reflect on the wreckage of the afternoon.

Co-manager Nick Galea said: “Some of the referee’s decisions have proved pivotal.

“Having said that, we were not at the races. We have to put this behind us now and look to the next game.”

• READSTONE United Blues Under 8s won 3-1 at home to Colne Juniors, with all three goals coming from Jack Leaver. Man of the match was Nathan Dansen.

Readstone Yellows Under 9s had a convincing 5-0 victory over Readstone Blues, with man of the match Owen Parker scoring four and Alex Morrissey one.

Man of the match for the Blues was Josh Waddington.

The Under 10s Blues beat Readstone Reds 3-2 in a very entertaining game of football.

The goal scorers for the Blues were Brandon Wylie, Alex Whittaker and man of the match Saul Wilds.

FINAL SCORE: Read United 0, Langho 3
