No psychological problem for Clarets away from home

The Clarets were beaten 3-1 at Everton on Saturday, after producing one of – if not their best - performances on the road this term.

His side have collected only four points on their travels, matching Burnley’s return from 2009/10, and only the Derby County side of 2007/08 gained fewer in Premier League history, with three.

Burnley have two more games remaining away from home to avoid being the seventh side to go through a Premier League season without a win on the road – at Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.

And Dyche said: “I thought we were still going at 3-1 down, still trying to force the issue and find those golden moments – we had one cleared off the line – so I don’t think it’s been about that (a psychological thing).

“It was early season, we didn’t earn the right to win games away from home, whereas the last seven, eight or so, there’s a couple where we’ve scratched our head and couldn’t believe we hadn’t won.

“And there’s been a couple like this where we’ve performed well enough to get something.”

For Everton, it was an eighth-successive home win, and Dyche added: “Everton are a top side, and the detail in the third goal in particular, from a top striker (Romelu Lukaku), those margins aren’t fine, they are the obvious margins.

“They have a striker who is as hot as you like, a real player.

“That was the only one that got away from us, in the sense it was a top class player doing what he does.

“The other two, you come away frustrated with, the set piece takes a bobble and forced over the line, and the second, you can’t make it up.”

Michael Keane was rolled by Lukaku for the third goal, shortly after Everton had gone in front with a Ross Barkley shot, which was deflected in off Keane and Ben Mee.

But Dyche accepted: “I think they had three minutes after they scored the second, where they looked like they have done here, and they eased once they got the third and we slightly got back on the front foot.

“But, when players are on that hot streak, it is difficult when it comes in the box to their feet, and he’s done that to centre halves all season.”
