With the sun beating down on the pitch at the Globe Arena, on what transpired to be the hottest day of the year, Burnley's first pre-season fixture on British shores was played out at a pedestrian pace.

Jim Bentley's League Two outfit were the first to test the water when Paul Robinson, deputising for absent England international Tom Heaton, inadvertently found Ryan Edwards with an attempted clearance from a Shrimps corner but the ball cleared the crossbar.

The tempo may have been relatively reserved but there was nothing jaded about David Jones's quickly taken free kick to Michael Kightly on the left hand side, which resulted in Ashley Barnes drawing a save from Barry Roche with a header.

Roche stood his ground again moments later - after Robinson had turned Lee Molyneux's deflected set-piece around the upright - to deny Rouwen Hennings as the German striker hit the target in front of the travelling supporters housed inside the Bay Radio Stand.

Turner's low drive had the beating of Robinson but, with the Clarets stopper plunging to his left hand side, the effort squirmed past the post.

And in the final action of the half, after both sides enjoyed an unscheduled water break, Leicester City target Michael Keane looped a header wide of the post from Kightly's corner.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche, who today added Charlton Athletic pair Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Nick Pope to his Turf Moor ranks, made wholesale changes at the interval and that brought goals in the second half.

After Lukas Jutkiewicz glanced wide from Chris Long's driven cross and headed over from Dean Marney's corner, Morecambe took the lead.

As Robinson spilled a cross from the left flank, Turner was on hand to nod the ball in to an empty net in the 54th minute.

Last season's leading scorer Gray had his first sight at goal just after the hour when Dean Winnard tracked back well to deflect his effort wide but the striker had the ball in the net just minutes later.

Gray, who netted 25 times in the Championship last term, fired low from the edge of the box from George Boyd's pass, picking out the space between Roche's glove and the post.
