A fantastic total of £1,364 has been raised at a special charity event organised to pay for a bench on Chaburn playing fields for the late Tony Knowles.

Tony suddenly died earlier this year, having played football for Chatburn for many years, and encouraged many players – including Geoff Young, Kerrie Pratt and Paul Bretherton.

Memories were rekindled on the day, last month, as the game between Chatburn and Swan and Royal from the Ribble Valley League, for the Aitken Shield, from 1991 – which has been found and transferred onto a DVD – was shown to several of the players who took part.

The event took place in the Black Bull, Chatburn.
