Blues boss Simon Garner has praised the efforts of his squad as Clitheroe got off the mark in pre-season.
Following defeats to Stockport County, Curzon Ashton and Ramsbottom United, the Blues beat Barnoldswick Town emphatically on Tuesday evening.
Striker Louis Mayers netted twice in the 5-1 triumph at the Silentnight Stadium, while skipper David Lynch, summer signing Scott Harries and Jonny Hession added to the scoreline. Former Shawbridge youth player Tom Jackson scored the home side’s consolation.
“It was nice to get our first win of pre-season,” said Garner. “It was a great victory and it could’ve been more. We created a lot of chances and it was a great run out for the lads.
“The fitness of the players was good and they worked hard for each other. The lads have been superb so far, they’ve given their all and we are building up to the season well.”
Garner added: “Louis did well. He opened the scoring with a great individual goal where he beat a couple of players before slipping the ball in to the corner.
“That will give him a lot of confidence. It’s great for him to get on the score sheet. He led the line well on his own. All the lads looked sharp though and there were plenty of positives to take.”
Meanwhile, Sefton Gonzales and Danny Morton both featured for Stockport County in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United under 21s at Edgeley Park.
“From all the reports I’ve seen and from what I’ve heard they both did really well. Danny hit the bar with a header and Sefton caused the opposition all sorts of problems.
“They were playing against a very good side in front of nearly 2,500 spectators so it’s a great experience for them. They both seem to be flourishing.”
The Blues travel to Shelley on Saturday for their penultimate pre-season encounter, with kick-off at 3 p.m., and round off their preparations away at Darwen on Wednesday with kick-off at 7-45 p.m.
