Keane has been involved in the last three England squads now, without making it onto the pitch in four previous games.

But he is expected to start alongside former Clarets loan man Gary Cahill and his old Manchester United colleague Chris Smalling as Gareth Southgate experiments against the world champions.

The 24-year-old said after the goal-less draw at Sunderland on Saturday: “Hopefully (I can) make my debut this time.

“We’ve got two big games coming up with Germany away at Dortmund. I can’t wait for that one especially.

“It’s going to be a special occasion and it’s great to be a part of it. If I can get on and make my debut, I’ll be over the moon.

“It’s been a dream of mine so we’ll just have to wait and see, I’m excited, I’ll hopefully train well and see where that takes me.

“I’ve been desperate to do it all season. I’ve been away twice now so hopefully it’ll be third time lucky.

“It’s something I’ve dreamt of since I was a young boy so if I can do that then it’ll be a big milestone for me.”

England then face Lithuania at Wembley on Sunday looking to extend their unbeaten start in Group F of their World Cup qualifying group.
