Jones – ‘We won’t get carried away here’
The Clarets climbed to second in the Championship table with a 3-1 win at home to Fulham on Tuesday night – their ninth victory in 12 outings.
Two years ago, Sean Dyche’s side moved into the top two towards the end of September, and didn’t drop out of contention all season, going on to finish runners-up behind Leicester.
That relentless nature is the buzzword again, but Jones warned: “It’s going to be a long, tough season again. We’re not getting carried away or anything, we know how difficult it is and we know how quickly things can change in football, so we’re just concentrating on what we do and giving our all and seeing where that mentality takes us.
“The next game at Wolves is a massive one for us, we want to put on a performance and get a good result there.”
Jones won the Championship title with Wolves in 2009, enjoying a couple of seasons in the Premier League under Mick McCarthy, and he looked forward to a return: “When you go back to your old club you know a few people there , but I’ll just be going there and looking to continue what we’ve been doing.
“I’m looking forward to playing Wolves, they’re definitely a threat, especially at home. They get a full house and the crowd get behind them. I got promoted there and had a couple of campaigns in the Premier League. Good memories, but I’ve moved on and I’m enjoying my time here.”
