Hurst Green Reserves...........7

Leyland United......................2

With the first team without a fixture, the reserves took centre stage as they went third in the table.

Mangers Young and Holden stuck with the side that had built a 10-game winning run, and their faith was repaid.

Green rushed to a 3-0 lead with barely 15 minutes on the clock. Foley was the first to strike, picking up the ball from 40 yards out before lashing a strike into the top left corner.

On 10 minutes, more glorious attacking football culminated in a one two between Sargeson and Scott, and a wonderful chip over the keeper from Sargeson.

It was Scott’s turn next, when a fine pass from right back Barnes landed at his feet on the edge of the box, and his quick turn and shot beat everybody.

Green reinforced their lead when a lay off from Mort fell to Barnes, and his pile driver from 18 yards flew in.

Leyland rallied, and started to show why they were so high in the division. Green failed to clear a ball into the box, and with keeper Chester beaten, Bywater cleared off the line.

On the cusp of half-time, Leyland capitalised on Green again failing to clear their lines, and Chester was powerless to prevent a shot creeping over the line off the post.

The second half started much like the first, with Green passing the ball with confidence. Within five minutes, a pass from Barnes to Mort saw the young striker beat defender and keeper, only for his shot to rebound off the post. Scott saw his follow up shot parried by the keeper.

It was 5-1 after 60 minutes when Scott latched on to a long pass from Barnes before squaring it to Foley, who wrong footed the keeper.

Two mins later, Foley had a well-deserved hat-trick, finishing a great cross from Cattermole.

Moments later, Chester pulled off a miraculous save, somehow managed to reach a free header with a firm hand to tip the ball to safety.

Hurst Green made it seven when a delightful lay off from substitute Cook allowed Scott to fire home.

Leyland managed a second goal when a speculative cross ricocheted off the head of the forward and beyond the reach of Chester.
