Grindleton Reserves added to the Ribble Valley’s trophy-laden season as they landed the Craven and District Football League Third Division Cup following an exciting final at Cowling against Sutton.

In their new strip, sponsored by the Spread Eagle Inn at Sawley, the locals fell behind, only for Simon Hodgson to equalise on 20 minutes.

Simon Ryan then put Grindleton ahead five minutes from half-time.

Following the interval, Sutton equalised shortly after the restart, before Grindleton were awarded a penalty on 65 minutes, converted crisply by Aamir Zulfi.

There followed an period of intense play from both sides before, in the 90th minute, and with the cup in touching distance, Sutton equalised.

Despondency was cast aside during the additional 30 minutes of extra time, and with the light fading fast, Khurram Zulfi triggered jubilation on the pitch and the sideline with a well-struck winner 10 minutes from the close.

Both sides were presented with commemorative medals.
