A new form of football is coming back to Clitheroe this summer - and you can be part of the competition next month.

The Clitheroe Futsal Cup, formerly known as the PESL Futsal Cup, is back, bigger and better and will be an annual event held at Ribblesdale Pool pitches from August 9-11th.

Ten years ago, former Clitheroe Grammar students Damon Shaw, Mark Wemyss-Holden, Scott Sumner and Craig Brown organised a small tournament for friends while they were home from university, and this quickly grew into a 15-team tournament before stopping in 2008.

Exactly 10 years to the weekend, the tournament is back and with teams coming from Grimsby, Leeds and Middlesbrough, this is already shaping up to be the best one so far.

Shaw is the owner of Middlesbrough Futsal Club, a project he started at university in his spare time, said: “It’s 10 years since starting the tournament, and we want to bring it back and maybe kick start a futsal community in the Ribble Valley. We’ll look to start some junior futsal and maybe we could see some talent from the area one day playing for England!”

Entry to the tournament is £50, for up to 12 players per squad, and includes a barbeque. To enter, e-mail play@borofutsal.co.uk with your team name and contact details.
