Dyche lauds quality of goals in victory over QPR
Much has been made of Burnley’s energy and pressing game, and the statistics they clock up for kilometres run in games.
But Dyche’s side saw off the Hoops with two top-quality goals from Scott Arfield and Danny Ings to secure a vital three points, climbing out of the bottom three, leapfrogging Rangers, in the process.

Hide AdArfield beat Joey Barton and Mauricio Isla before shaping the ball into the far corner, while Ings flicked the ball over Stephen Caulker and slotted past Rob Green, and Dyche said: “Scotty’s was a fantastic goal, a lot is made, and rightly so, of the physical side of the team legs-wise, the energy, willingness and desire to deliver performances, and the tactical understanding is good, although we look to refine that.
“But also we have quality, which doesn’t always get a mention, which I understand because people aren’t familiar with some of our players.
“Scotty’s goal was absolutely tremendous though, if that’s Alexis Sanchez, that gets shown a thousand times over the weekend, we might get 50!
“It was a top drawer goal, two nutmegs before using the final player as a screen to shape it around.

“There is quality there, it has to be enhanced, but it’s another good marker, we are developing, becoming more clinical and supplying better chances.”
Dyche felt his side were good value for the win: “I think overall we deserved it, both sides deserve credit for trying to play because the weather was atrocious.
“Certainly we had to try and play productively, the wind was playing havoc.

“QPR never stopped coming, as you’d expect, they got their full backs higher and wider and took a chance, but we exposed that, without that final finish.
“Their keeper deserves credit again, he did at their place and he made two terrific saves from set pieces again.”
Former Claret Charlie Austin scored an equaliser from the spot, after being felled by Dean Marney, but Dyche said simply: “I had no complaints.”

Hide AdAshley Barnes had a goal ruled out which would have made it 3-1, for a supposed foul on Green, and Dyche noted: “I’ve just seen it, and 10 years ago, it’s a goal. Today it’s not. The game has changed.
“Barnesy’s shoulder stops the keeper accelerating to catch it, and it’s one of those things.
“I could cry it in for us, but if it was against us, I think I’d be questioning it, so I’ve no problem with it.”
And he is taking little notice of the league table, despite climbing to 16th: “There’s a long way to go, it’s one game at a time, we prepared right again, I thought the players delivered a good performance in bad conditions.
“It feels different against teams around you as well, and the players handled that well.”
