Dog Inn kept up their recent winning run with a comfortable 4-0 victory against Station at Haslingden Sports Centre.
The champions had the better of a tight opening 20 minutes and took the lead when Dane Meyler fired home after the Station defence had failed to deal with Charlie Collinge’s corner.
They doubled their advatange a short time later when Luke Conti, who had already gone close, turned and fired home a stunning shot from the edge of the area.
Two became three shortly before half-time when Luke Green’s superb through ball sent Conti clear; he tormented the Station defence before pulling the ball back for Oli McLean to apply an easy close-range finish.
There was only one further goal in the second half, Dog captain and man-of-the-match Pete Fletcher firing home from the penalty spot as his side secured their third successive win with their second successive clean sheet.
While he knows that his side can play much better, Dog manager Simon Kerins was delighted with another win and clean sheet:
“Clean sheets are not exactly ten a penny in Sunday League, but we have now secured two in a row and three already in this campaign.
“We always have goals in us, but our defending this season has been largely excellent and inspires confidence right throughout the side.”
