Colne Reserves beat Fleetwood to reach final

In their first season in the Galaxy league Colne Reserves have reached the League Cup West Cup Final by beating a youthful Fleetwood Town at the XLCR Stadium on Monday night.

Colne were very much up for the game and started on the front foot, pressing the Fleetwood team back.

They were rewarded on 15 minutes when, from a Richard Johnson throw, Sean Thompson expertly laid the ball off for Dom Craig to bust through and rifle a low shot past the Fleetwood keeper.

The Reds took a stranglehold on the game five minutes later when, after good build up down the right, Ben Bridson coolly controlled the ball with his left foot and stroked the ball into the bottom corner with his right.

Fleetwood attempted to get back into the game but could make no impression on the Reds defence, with both Mickey Woodvine and captain Nathan Gibson in dominant form, and at half-time the Reds led 2–0.

The Reds never quite reached the level of performance in the second half, as Fleetwood attempted to get back into the game.

A rare break in the second half saw a Daniel Russell volley well held by the keeper, before Fleetwood pulled a goal back after 70 minutes when a deflected shot wrong footed keeper Jamie Scott.

However, despite late Fleetwood pressure, the Reds held firm for a well deserved victory.

Colne will play Bamber Bridge in the final at a date and venue to be confirmed.
