CLITHEROE Wolves Under 9s made significant ground in the title chase with a fantastic win against leaders Globe on Saturday.

An epic performance saw the young Wolves notch up a 2-0 victory which put them in second place, a point behind new leaders Rishton.

Wolves took the game to the visitors from the off, and Hibbert, Atkinson and Lloyd all went close.

However, the excellent Globe keeper ensured his side went in goal-less at the break.

The second half couldn’t have started better for Wolves as straight from the kick-off Lloyd went on a mazy run down the left and put in a fantastic cross which was met by Hibbert full on the volley to give Clitheroe a deserved lead.

Spurred on, Clitheroe tested the Globe keeper time after time before good work from Lloyd again found Hibbert, who again made no mistake.

The team can be immensely proud of their performance and it now puts them in a very promising position in the league.

IT just wasn’t Wolves’ day in a physical game.

In the first half, Harry Exell, Taylor Wilson, Harry Jackson, Finley Devenney and Ben England all went close, but Mill Hill went in 3-0 up at the break with a good strike and goals from two corners.

In the second half, Wolves continued to attack and create chances, with Exell, Devenney, Jamie Thornber and Joe Briggs all having opportunities, but Mill Hill clinched victory with a fourth goal.

Man of the match was Devenney.
