Clitheroe footballer Louis Cross, who is with Blackpool’s Academy, has signed for Akron Zip, an American college team.
Louis, 18, who has finished his studies at Blackpool Sixth, where he studied BTEC Sport as part of his apprenticeship with Blackpool, will be joining the University of Akron in Ohio, the top-rated college in America for football.
He has been with Blackpool since he was eight years old, captaining the Seasiders’ youth team.
The defender also captained his country on a tour of Scandinavia, and was named England’s Under 16 Independent Player of the Year, as well as the League Football Education’s Apprentice of the Month in February.
He now links up with Akron Zip, who were national champions in 2010 and have had more players drafted into Major League Soccer since 2006 than any other university.
Blackpool Sixth sports tutor, Stephen Gibson said: “Louis is extremely committed to his football and to his academic work.
“We wish Louis all the best in his future career.”
