CLITHEROE footballer Chris Bailey has been selected to show off his skills in a global talent search competition.
The midfielder Chris Bailey has been selected as a regional finalist in Nike’s The Chance Contest after Nike’s Elite Training team visited Burnley College to put the football academy through a series of fitness tests focusing on speed, agility and power.
A-level football studies student Chris, who lives in Clitheroe and attended Ribblesdale High School, will attend a trial on June 28th in Manchester where he will be watched by Nike coaches and scouts from professional clubs.
If successful, he will travel to the global final in Barcelona where he could be one of 16 players chosen to tour the world with the Nike Academy as part of an elite team.
This Academy will take part in an international tour of Nike-sponsored football clubs, giving the players the opportunity to showcase their football talent internationally.
Chris said: “This has been an amazing year for me as a footballer. I trained with Scunthorpe United over Christmas and became part of the Rishworth Project at Manchester City. To have the chance to compete against the world’s best young players and perform in front of scouts who have found some of my idols is fantastic. I’m really looking forward to the trial and hope I perform well enough on the day to make it through to the global final.”
