Clitheroe boss Simon Garner has thanked fans for their support in his first eight weeks in charge, and hopes to give them more cheer over the festive period.

The Blues take on local rivals Padiham today at home looking for revenge after their 3-1 defeat earlier this season in the FA Cup preliminary round.

Since Garner took over in mid-October the Blues are unbeaten at Shawbridge having won five and drawn one, a run he is hoping to extend this afternoon.

“I am looking forward to Padiham. We want as many fans as possible to come down for the game. It should be a great atmosphere and a great game.

“The Christmas period means football games coming thick and fast.

“It is going to be a very busy period and one were we will need to utilise our squad.

“As I have said before since we have come in, all the lads, including the ones that have left and the ones that have recently joined, have been superb.

“Myself, Ryan (Parr) and Jason (Jones) would like to personally thank them all.

“We are gradually building up a better picture of the different qualities the lads bring, and game by game we are all gaining more experience, as with such a young squad and management team, it is one of the things that at present we lack.

“The only way the lads can gain experience though is by playing games at this level, and we feel we are building a team that is only going to improve.

“It is about building a squad that can finish as high as possible this season and hopefully hit the ground running next.”

Although there have been a few indifferent results in recent weeks, Garner believes the positives undoubtedly outweigh the negatives.

“One of the areas we need to improve is our away form and it is definitely something we are working on. Myself, Ryan and Jason have really enjoyed our first few months in the job and are happy with the way with have climbed up the league. It has been a steep learning curve and we are continually working to improve.

“We would like to thank all the fans and everyone at the club for the support they have provide us with over the last eight weeks.

“Please keep supporting us over the Christmas period and we will work hard to provide you with more entertainment and more wins.

“I would personally like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Your support is really appreciated.”
