Blues boss Paul Moore has likened the current state of his depleted dressing room to a hospital ward.
Those sidelined at Shawbridge include Tom Berwick (broken metatarsal), Danny Smith (ankle), Chris King (dislocated knee) and Will James (hamstring strain) while Simon Nangle has a suspension looming following his dismissal in the 2-1 home defeat to Wakefield at the weekend.
Moore has added AFC Fylde winger Aaron Fleming and Southport striker Jamie Campbell to the ranks, but he’s still struggling for numbers. “It’s not disastrous and it’s certainly not the end of the world,” he said. “We are only six games in after having an unsettled pre-season and enduring a big injury list. It’s been a very difficult period.
“It’s like a hospital ward in our dugout at the moment. I can’t make many changes. It’s been a bit of a nightmare but we’re trying our best to get results. We’ve not had a settled squad competing yet. It’s been square pegs in round holes so I’m looking forward to eventually being given a selection headache. We won’t be relegation candidates, that’s for sure.”
