BLUES boss Carl Garner believes magic could be the only answer as he looks to trim his squad down to size.
A total of 22 players featured in the 4-3 victory against Premier Division outfit Kendal Town at Shawbridge on Saturday, and there’s still a number of absentees, many first team regulars, who haven’t featured yet.
“I’m going to have to be like Houdini to strip this squad down,” said Garner. “I used 22 players against Kendal and they’re all doing very well. It’s not going to be an easy task.
“I’m still in a situation where I can’t play the team I want to play. I’d never seen three of the defenders who played against Kendal kick a ball before and the only one contracted, Jimmy Heywood, got injured after 10 minutes.”
He added: “We were 3-1 down at half-time and we came back to win 4-3. It was a fabulous second half and we battered them.”
Garner is expecting another new face to arrive by the weekend.
And he is closer to filling voids in the backroom staff off the field. “I should hopefully be naming my assistant this weekend,” he said. “I’m just waiting for a phone call.
“We’re also looking for a physio who can commit to the club. There’ll be a small wage involved.” Anybody interested can contact 01200 423344.
The Blues entertain Silsden on Saturday (3 p.m.), before hosting Burscough on Tuesday (7-45 p.m.).
