CLITHEROE boss Carl Garner was full of praise for his son Simon after watching him star in FC Halifax Town’s FA Cup first-round clash against League One side Charlton Athletic, aired live on ITV.
Goals from Matt Taylor, Johnnie Jackson, Danny Hollands and Bradley Pritchard decided the tie as the Addicks marched through despite enjoying just 38% of the possession.
Garner said: “It was brilliant. He came off in the 73rd minute because he had been booked.
“They lined up 4-5-1, looked solid and they were well in the game. Simon then came off and they opened up a bit because they went for it.
“The rest is history. Simon had been playing the protective role and that went when he was substituted.
“By Chris Powell’s own admission, the scoreline wasn’t reflective of the performance.
“But it was a nice family day out, and it was good to watch a game as a spectator.
“It was a lovely, refreshing change, and I enjoyed the occasion. It was a nice experience just to be a dad and a supporter.
“It was good to see three former Clitheroe FC lads involved as well.
“My son, Gregg Anderson and James Dean have all been involved with the club.
“I brought them all here, so it’s good to see them all doing so well. Simon certainly did us proud in every way.”
